Özet

Amaç: Çalışmamızda üniversite öğrencilerinde sigara kullanımının egzersiz kapasitesi ve fiziksel uygunluk düzeyi üzerine etkisini belirlemek amaçlandı.

Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya Başkent Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi, Fizyoterapi ve Rehabilitasyon bölümünde öğrenim gören sigara içme öyküsü olan 20 öğrenci ile sigara öyküsü olmayan 20 öğrenci dahil edildi. Olguların egzersiz kapasiteleri, altı dakika yürüme testi (6DYT) ile belirlendi. Sağlıkla ilişkili fiziksel uygunluk düzeyi alt parametrelerinden üst ekstremite kas kuvveti (el dinanometresi kas kuvveti), alt ekstremite kassal endurans (otur kalk testi, vertikal sıçrama testi), abdominal kas enduransı (sit up testi), esneklik (lateral uzanma, otur uzan testi, sırt kaşıma testi), denge (süreli kalk yürü testi) değerlendirilmesi yapıldı. İki grup arasındaki sonuç ölçümleri Mann-Whitney U testi ile analiz edildi.

Bulgular: Sigara içen ve içmeyen gruplar arasında, sağlıkla ilişkili fiziksel uygunluk alt parametrelerinden, zamanlı kalk yürü testi, sırt kaşıma testi (sağ) skorları arasında sigara içmeyen grubun lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulundu (p<0.05). 6DYT mesafesinde sigara içmeyen grubun yürüme mesafesi anlamlı olarak yüksekti (p=0.017). 6DYT sonrası Modifiye Borg Skalası ile değerlendirilen yorgunluk düzeyi sonuçlarında sigara içen öğrencilerin lehine anlamlı fark bulundu (p<0.05).

Sonuç: Çalışmamızda sigara kullanımının üniversite öğrencilerinin egzersiz kapasitesi, yorgunluk düzeyini ve fiziksel uygunluk düzeylerini önemli ölçüde etkileyebildiği görüldü.
